CR123, CR2, 2CR5, CRP2, CRV3 Photo Lithium Batteries
Let us provide you with some fundamental things to be aware of about photo lithium batteries before you purchase them. Many people need 3 volt lithium batteries to power their devices, but unfortunately assume that any 3 volt battery will work. This is not the case. You must know the model number you require. Photo lithium batteries include model numbers such as: CR123A, CR2, 2CR5, CRP2, CRV3 to name a few.
Photo Lithium Batteries are commonly used in today's digital cameras, flashlights, personal computers and often as memory back up. They are used in wrist watches, remote controls and many, many other devices. If you equipment uses photo lithium batteries, it will say so on the battery.
An advantage of photo lithium chemistry batteries is their excellent shelf life, at 10 years, on average. If you use them, you should stock up for future use, when you spot a great deal!
It should be noted that Photo Lithium Batteries are available in rechargeable chemistries as well. These same size and application batteries, which are rechargeable, are made with Lithium Ion (LI-Ion) chemistry. Of course, there are Li-Ion Chargers, dedicated to these batteries. Li-Ion chemistry does not pose the risk of memory effect (reduced memory) that is often seen in, for example, in NiCd batteries.
You can charge and recharge Photo Li-Ion batteries hundreds and hundreds of times. These are referred to as charge cycles.
The various companies who make photo lithium batteries, including Duracell, Energizer, and Rayovac to name a few, use different model numbers for the CR123A. For example, Energizer calls theirs the EL123A, while Duracell's is the DL123A, and Rayovac calls theirs, the RL123A. All the names above can replace the CR123A battery without any complications.
The price of photo lithium batteries vary from brand to brand and can become expensive when purchased on blister cards. For example, 2CR5 Duracell lithium batteries can range between $5.95 and $12.95 each. If you don't require your Photo lithium batteries for re-sale purposes, save big money by purchasing them in bulk packaging.
You can also buy generic photo lithium batteries that are made in China. The quality may be slightly inferior but for standard consumer use you can hardly tell the difference. Usually governments, schools and hospitals would always choose abrand name, such as Duracell or Panasonic, over a generic battery. For their purposes, some of the best photo lithium batteries are made by the big four: Duracell, Energizer, Panasonic and Sanyo.
