Information and Product Offerings for AAA NiCd (Nickel Cadmium) Rechargeable Batteries

Nickel Cadmium batteries, (abbreviated NiCd) are 1.2 volt rechargeable batteries, very commonly used today in many consumer electronic devices.

AAA NiCd’s are used often in solar lighting but have other applications as well such as: clocks, cordless telephones, and remote controls.

In 99% of the cases only NiCd rechargeable batteries will work in solar lights and the simple reason for that is the charger that is built into solar lights will only charge NiCd cells. Whatever you do, NEVER use NiMh (Nickel Metal Hydride) rechargeable batteries in your solar lights because they will not work.

AAA NiCd batteries are best suited for low-drain devices as they offer on average,1/3 the capacity of NiMh cells.  A digital camera for instance, is a HIGH drain device and would not best be powered with NiCd batteries.

AAA NiCd’s have a low self-discharge rate. It should be noted that they can experience “memory effect”. Memory effect means “reduced total battery capacity when a battery is charged before it has been fully discharged”.  Recharging before empty, causes the battery to“remember” its’ now lower capacity limit so when charging your AAA NiCd’s, it’s best to wait until the batteries have been completely drained of power before re-charging. In this way, you will not reduce the overall power limit of the battery, protecting your investment, as well as the performance of the batteries.
